Our Story

About Matai Lane

Matai Lane is a small, family-run New Zealand business making everyday life with little ones a bit easier. We design and choose feeding sets, plates, bibs and drink bottles in food-grade silicone and stainless steel. They're made with materials we'd trust for our own child, and designed to be used again and again. We're a family of three: two parents and one very energetic daughter. She's the reason we pay such close attention to quality, and the best product tester we could ask for.

Why we started

Matai Lane began with a feeling. I'd always wanted to start something of my own, but never found the courage. My job was familiar and comfortable, and slowly it had become repetitive. I wanted to build something that could grow, and that my husband, our daughter and I could share. My husband gave me the push I needed. He believed in the idea before I did. So we started with a simple question: what would we want in a product? The answer was clear: • It makes family life easier, especially for busy parents juggling mealtimes, daycare runs and everything in between. • It's made with care, using materials we'd trust for our own child. • It's reusable, so it can help cut down on single-use plates, cups and wraps. • It's made for everyday use, ready for daycare runs and to be passed on to the next little one in the family. These are the things we look for when choosing every product in our range.

The name behind Matai Lane

Mātai is a native New Zealand tree, a symbol of deep roots and strength, just like family. Lane is the path we want to offer: one that's easier and more pleasant to travel, whether you're in a busy morning or on a big adventure. It's also the path we're on ourselves. We're growing and developing Matai Lane one small step at a time, alongside the families who choose us.

Our promise

We believe small choices can add up to a brighter future. Matai Lane is our way of making those choices easier for other families. Thank you for being part of our story. We can't wait to see our little essentials on your family's big adventures. Ngā mihi, Jinice & Hamish
